Tomi was 17 when she decided healthcare was her life's work. She completed her CNA certification at 18 and stepped onto a hospital floor for the first time, and she has not stopped since. Over the next decade, she rose through every level of the field, phlebotomy, laboratory leadership, acute care, and nursing, earning the highest-tier lab assistant position at Sonora Medical Center and a Service Excellence Award for the kind of care that lifted an entire hospital. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing while simultaneously running a business she kept alive through a global pandemic on nothing but adaptability and will. But Tomi did not build that foundation just to work inside a system she knew was failing people. She built it so she could build something outside of it. Alongside her life partner Jasmine, Tomi co-founded Releaf Holistic, an integrative primary care practice where she oversees operations, conducts patient assessments, supports individualized treatment plans, and drives quality improvement every single day. Releaf is not separate from who she is. It is the clinical expression of everything she believes, that care should be whole-person, prevention-centered, and delivered with integrity. That same belief is what gave rise to The People's Medic. TPM exists because Tomi looked at the communities around her and saw the same thing over and over: people who were underserved, undereducated about their own health, and told to wait their turn by institutions that were never designed to prioritize them. She refused to accept that. She co-founded TPM alongside Jasmine to put life-saving health care, love and knowledge directly into the hands of everyday people. No insurance required. No prerequisites. No gatekeeping. Just education, delivered where people actually are, by people who actually care. Tomi has organized community classes, trained volunteers, led outreach in places where most providers have never set foot, and testified before government committees about public health failures she witnessed firsthand. She handles the organizational infrastructure, logistics, partnerships, operations, and the invisible work that turns a mission into a functioning movement. She is currently pursuing her graduate education to become a nurse practitioner because she believes the work demands it and the community deserves it. She cares for her ninety-two-year-old father at home, which has taught her more about dignity, patience, and advocacy than any institution ever could. She believes the most radical act in healthcare right now is giving people the knowledge to take care of themselves and each other. She is not waiting for the system to do it. She is doing it. It changes when people on the ground decide to build something better and then actually do it. She has never waited for conditions to be perfect. She builds on the conditions she is given. That is what she has always been doing. And she is just getting started.
